چکیده

A case is presented in which a histologically proven prolactin secreting pituitary macroadenoma was associated with a large suprasellar craniopharyngioma. The pre-operative prolactin concentration was 8180 mU/l. Although hyperprolactinaemia up to 3000 mU/l in patients with a craniopharyngioma is usually due to stalk compression, greater values may indicate an associated prolactinoma.

Bone mineral density and bone turnover in hyperprolactinaemia of various origins.

INTRODUCTION Osteopenia and osteoporosis because of hyperprolactinaemia caused by prolactinoma may be followed by an increased risk of fracture. There are no data on the bone effects of functional hyperprolactinaemia. The aim was to assess the influence of hyperprolactinaemia of various origins on bone turnover and density in different skeletal sites. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was carrie...

Hyperprolactinaemia and Prolactinoma

Pregnancy. Puerperium. Breast stimulation. Stress physical (including excessive exercise) or psychological including venepuncture. Macroprolactinaemia: This refers to prolactin of high molecular mass, mostly complexes of monomeric prolactin with immunoglobulins (prolactin autoantibody complexes). These larger molecules have low bioactivity and a prolonged clearance rate similar to that of immun...

Ultrafiltration – an alternative method to polyethylene glycol precipitation for macroprolactin detection

INTRODUCTION The aim of the study was to evaluate two methods of macroprolactin (MaPRL) detection - precipitation with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and ultrafiltration and to compare these techniques with "gold standard" - gel filtration chromatography (GFC). MATERIAL AND METHODS The study was conducted on 245 patients - 45 with organic and 200 with functional hyperprolactinaemia. In all the sub...

The birth and rise of a craniopharyngioma: the radiological evolution of an incidental craniopharyngioma detected on serial MRI during medical treatment of a macroprolactinoma

This case demonstrates the rare coexistence of a prolactinoma with craniopharyngioma and documents its radiological growth. This case suggests that patients with pituitary neoplasms should be followed closely and although prolactinomas can often be managed medically, a coexistent other lesion may require surgery for histological assessment and to reduce mass effect.

Treatment of presumed prolactinoma by transsphenoidal operation: early and late results.

Seventy seven patients who were presumed to have a prolactinoma on the basis of biochemical findings underwent transsphenoidal operation between October 1977 and September 1983. Sixty one patients were found to have a microadenoma, and hyperprolactinaemia was cured in 46 of these, amenorrhoea in 39 (80% of those with the symptom), galactorrhoea in 32 (80%), and infertility in 31 (82%). Four of ...
